The awesome gal who did my wedding hair and makeup is a friend from high school. She has a precious heart and has such an incredible family. Growing up around her you knew that her brothers were ALWAYS going to be watching out for her and it secretly made me wish that I had an older brother, too. Brooke's oldest brother Brandon and wife, Angel, have two little boys, the second was born just a few days ago.
Around Christmas of 2012 they found out they were pregnant and you can imagine the joy that was to come in the next few months! In April, however, things changed for this family. They found out that their son, baby Elijah, had a condition called anencephaly. Anencephaly is a rare condition in which the major parts of the baby's brain and skull don't develop properly. In every case, the family is given the option to abort since most babies don't survive birth, or they die within hours. This mother and this family knew that abortion wasn't an option. That Elijah was fearfully and wonderfully made. As I have read Angel's blog over the past few months, I have literally been in tears as I have seen such incredible faith and trust in the Lord. I have been SO blown away by how she has persevered through a circumstance that I can't even comprehend.
On Thursday, baby Elijah was born. He is a beautiful baby that has already impacted so, so many lives. It is so incredible to think that God created Elijah to make this extraordinary impact in such a short amount of time. People all around our area have been so encouraged by this family's story and specifically this mother's faith. What a testimony they are.
The Lord has continued to blow this family away with miracle after miracle. He survived birth. He survived his first 24 hours. He survived 48 hours. They sent him home. I can't imagine what this family feels as they have been able to take their sweet boy home when they never expected that day to happen. Elijah is still hanging on, still getting so much love from his family.
There are some hard days ahead. This family is already going through such bittersweet moments and I know the fear and anxiety and exhaustion is pressing in. Please, friends, pray for strength for this family as they face some of the hardest days. Pray for peace as they hold onto sweet Elijah for as long as they can. I've seen so many posts from this family and they are constantly praising the Lord for Elijah's life and for the Lord's favor on them. What a testimony they are, friends.
Hospital bills, hospice bills, and funeral costs are all in this family's future. So many have already rallied around them and started to lift the financial burden off of them. If you can give, I know they appreciate every penny. Every dollar is a burden lifted. But, I KNOW they covet your prayers. Please join with me and pray for this family!

Lord, be near to this family. I pray that your presence would be tangible and that your peace would overwhelm their hearts. I pray that you would keep baby Elijah at ease and that he would feel loved by all those around him. Lord, I pray for strength for the days ahead. I pray for comfort. Amen.
