DIY goodness

Good morning, sunshines! In case you don't know me, I'm Rachel from {simple.little.joys}!

The new Mrs Cole is off celebrating with her hubby on a beautiful beach, and I am so excited to be here, sharing her space with all of you girls! Nicole, I hope you and Tyler are having the time of your lives--we can't wait to hear about it!

So let's get down to some fun stuff today. I don't know about y'all, but I'm a big do-er. The second I get a few minutes to sit down, (when I should be doing laundry/doing the dishes/paying bills...) I get the urge to craft. And when the urge to craft comes on me, I just can't suppress it.

So yesterday, I was off work, and had a few minutes in between errands, and just THAT happened. I have an arts and crafts drawer that has supplies and leftover items I haven't used, so I decided to browse through it and find something to create.

This is what I came up with...

A little DIY canvas for that empty spot in my bathroom that's been driving me crazy.

Here's what you'll need:

I had some canvases I got on clearance so I just used those. I grabbed a newspaper, picked a color, and went to town. This whole project cost about $6 total! Cheap and easy peasy--that's my kind of DIY project!

First, tear up strips of your newspaper (or magazine clippings or sheet music--I really wanted to use a hymn but wasn't sure how to go about getting that.) Then, open up your Modge Podge and get going. Modge Podging is SO easy--just put a little down as your "glue" and then put a thin coat over the top once you lay the piece down.

Keep going until your whole canvas is covered!

Let it dry. Then pick out your saying, verse, or lyric. Make sure your pack of stickers/letters has enough for your whole phrase or you may be out of luck in the middle of the project :)

My verse lately has been 2 Corinthians 2:19..."But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."

What a verse, right?? So powerful. So I picked part of that and stuck with it. You could do your favorite quote or lyric--anything would work, really.

Lay down your stickers and then pick your top coat color. Do a thin coat, just enough to see some of the newspaper print peeking through.

Let that coat dry, also. Then just peel off your letters and you are finished! Pick a great place to hang it, and then admire your work. Wasn't that easy? It's not bad for a 20 minute, $6 DIY project, don't you think?

That's all I've got for you today, girlfriends. Let me know if you decide to get a little crafty--I want to see how yours turns out. In the mean while, I'm going to get back to dreaming and wishing I was on a beach like Nicole and Ty! Have a fabulous day! racheldillard.blogspot.com
